Communications and Marketing Intern Position Reports To: ImaginePittsburgh.com Content/Social Media Manager ImaginePittsburgh.com is a program and website of the nonprofit Allegheny Conference on Community Development and its affiliates, which work to improve the economy and quality of life in southwestern Pennsylvania. The Conference’s members are 300+ of the region’s leading corporate, governmental and nonprofit organizations. ImaginePittsburgh.com and its social media channels support the Conference’s Workforce program. IP.com showcases the region as a great place to work, live, play and learn, and includes a custom-built jobs aggregator that pulls the 20,000+ open jobs across the 10-county region into one powerful search engine. The Conference is seeking an intern (40 hours per week in the summer; up to 20 hours per week during the school year) to assist with ImaginePittsburgh.com’s ongoing content/social media development, its communications and marketing support and (as needed, time permitting) with other Conference communications work.
The position calls for a person who can gather information through online, telephone and in-person research about career opportunities and other goings-on in the Pittsburgh region. The candidate will turn this information into lively, easily digestible copy for ImaginePittsburgh.com and its social media channels. S/he should be able to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards for accuracy.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES — Develop, write, edit, curate and upload ImaginePittsburgh.com content — Write, proofread and schedule/post updates to IP.com’s Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and other social media channels, including occasional live-tweeting from Conference events — Proofread and edit existing and new content — Review existing content for updates, corrections, etc.; develop ideas for new content and engagement
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES — Write, edit and curate news stories for the newsletter of ShaleNET.org, a Conference program that trains and places men and women in jobs with the natural gas (Marcellus Shale) industry — Assist with digital organization and indexing of Conference video and photography files — Assist with communications/other support at occasional Conference events — Shoot, edit and/or obtain photography
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Required: Must be enrolled in college/university through at least 2015-2016 (Work may be scheduled around classes, but must be completed during regular business hours at the Conference’s downtown office.) Strong research and nonfiction writing/journalism skills. Preferred: Experience with social media, photography and or videography. Previous internship or work experience.
