Photo/Video Intern at Erie Times News

March 14, 2016 by hstarr@pointpark.edu

2016 SUMMER PHOTO/VIDEO INTERNSHIP – GOERIE.COM | ERIE TIMES-NEWS – ERIE, PA
We have an academic internship in the photo/video department beginning in late May or early June, concluding in late August. It is an unpaid position that we offer in exchange for college credit. The successful candidate has to prove that they’re receiving credit for the internship.
Photoshop experience is essential, Final Cut Pro experience is helpful. We have some Nikon gear that you could use if necessary. All pool gear is Nikon. A comfortable understanding of all current social media delivery systems is a must as well. We would need the successful candidate to work between 20-30 hours a week. Start and finish date would be flexible but would be tied your class schedule.
Depending on their abilities, the successful candidate would shoot as many stills and video as they are capable of, but also would help us scan and caption contributed photos, prepare the next day’s photos, do some photo/video-related work involving our website, help with various office-related work in our department and shadow our four staff photographers and one staff videographer.
We’re looking for breaking news and general news photos and videos, feature photos and videos, sports photos and portraits. Submitting URLs to still image portfolios and/or videos is OK as long as the links include captions. If sending a physical portfolio, save images and video on a CD or USB jump drive that is compatible with Mac and PC. Images should run in some type of slideshow like Soundslides, or make a QuickTime movie of them. You must include complete AP-style captions for all photos. If you must send individual images, please don’t send huge files. We recommend .jpg files that are no more than 2000 pixels along their longest side. Please also include a cover letter and resume.
We could possibly help find economical housing for the summer at one of the local colleges in Erie. Also, there is an opportunity for paid part-time work at a local business. This possible job might also include housing.
Deadline to apply is Friday, March 11, 2016. Contact info is below.

Social Media Intern- Spanish Immersion School

March 14, 2016 by hstarr@pointpark.edu

La Escuelita Arcoiris, a Spanish Immersion Preschool in Squirrel Hill, is looking for a social media intern to begin Mid-March.  I saw on Point Park University’s website that you teach a social media course, and I thought you could potentially pass the information for our internship opportunity along to your students!

To be clear, although our staff primarily speaks Spanish, all of our posts and communication in our office is in English, so it is not required that the intern speaks Spanish, although it may be helpful at times.

I have attached a flyer with more information about the position and how to apply.  If you have any questions or concerns about the position, please feel free to keep in touch!

Thank you for your time!

Summer 2016 PublicSource marketing internship

PublicSource is an online news organization in Pittsburgh, providing Pennsylvania citizens with in-depth information. We write stories to explain complex issues in the areas of criminal justice, the environment, health, and politics.

We collaborate with about 50 media partners across the state, including newspapers, radio, television and other online news providers. Last year, our most shared story reached nearly six million readers.

As a public-interest news group, we also engage the public in critical, often ignored issues.

  • Someone with fresh ideas for promoting PublicSource to different age groups.
  • Someone with great social media skills.

  • Someone who will help with planning events and other community engagement.
  • Someone who can jump into the mix of a small newsroom with enthusiasm and ideas.

PublicSource is a nonprofit newsroom and does not pay interns, but we may pay an appropriate ‘bonus’ at the end of the internship period for outstanding work. If you have a professor who will give you credit, we’re happy to fill out the forms.

The schedule and length of internship is flexible, but we would prefer an intern to join us for at least 15 hours a week for three months. Our offices are at 477 Melwood Ave. in the Pittsburgh Filmmakers building.

Please send a cover letter and resume by or before March 29 to Halle Stockton at hstockton@publicsource.org.

Recent Grad Intern – Corporate Communications at PPG – PAID

March 14, 2016 by hstarr@pointpark.edu

Corporate Communications Generalist Intern

The Corporate Communications Generalist Intern will support the Corporate & Government Affairs team with day-to-day production and administrative support.

Responsibilities
Under supervision and in close collaboration with the project team, this position will provide support for corporate employee communications, public relations, visual/graphic media, website content and social media.

The intern will write, edit and proofread news articles, and post the articles on PPG’s global intranet.

This person will ensure professional, responsive, accurate and thorough support to all team members to deliver on production, project management and execution of goals.

Qualifications

  • Must be a recent college graduate in communications, public relations, marketing or related field.
  • Ability to work 40 hours/week.
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills. Familiarity with Associated Press style.
  • Good email/phone interview skills.
  • Self-starter – ability to work independently to accomplish tasks; proactive in improving client relationships, productivity and team progress.
  • Team player – ability to build productive relationships within a team and to work with clients in a professional, collaborative manner.
  • Demonstrated competence in managing multiple priorities and projects on tight deadlines while maintaining top-quality deliverables; ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • Software knowledge that includes Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, as well as some knowledge of Web publishing.

Thanks for the referral, Penny, and thanks for your quick reply, Angela!

My colleague, Larry O’Reilly (copied on this message), is recruiting for our next intern in PPG’s corporate communications group – right down the street in One PPG Place. We’re specifically seeking a recent grad who is able to work 40 hours/week, and the internship is a paid contract position at $20/hour. I’ve attached a document with more details about the position, which is really more like an entry-level job than an internship. It touches on PPG’s corporate community engagement as well, because our Corporate and Government Affairs department encompasses the PPG Foundation, corporate marketing and government affairs along with corporate communications.

We’re discovering that it’s very difficult to find strong writers, and I’m hoping Point Park can provide some candidates with strong journalism skills. We would appreciate any help you can provide in finding worthy candidates.

Our current intern is leaving next Friday after starting with us last fall, so we’re looking to fill the position soon.

Thank you very much!,
