Marketing and Communications Intern
The mission of the Cooper-Siegel Community Library is to cultivate a community of lifelong learners. The Library provides a high quality collection of books, media, and subscriptions as well as engaging programs and friendly customer service to serve the educational, cultural, professional and recreational needs and interests of our patrons.
The Marketing and Communications Intern role assists the library in achieving its mission through timely, accurate and engaging marketing and communications activities. The intern reports to the Executive Director and supports all staff and areas of the organization. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Marketing and Communications Intern is responsible for a wide variety of activities to publicize and promote Cooper-Siegel Community Library and Sharpsburg Community Library to the general public. Hours are flexible, but some consistency is preferred.
Job Responsibilities:
- Creates a PR/Marketing policy and assists with an annual PR/Marketing plan.
- Maintains and updates the Press/Media contact list accordingly.
- Coordinates promotion of all library programs and events through print, online, and social media outlets.
- Works closely with library staff to write and distribute press releases, post updates to the library’s social media sites and website and design and send out email blasts to promote the library’s events, resources and services.
- Prepares promotional and presentation materials, including flyers, signs, posters, calendars, brochures and displays for library programs, resources and services.
- Takes the lead in converting the library’s website to a WordPress platform.
- Networks with the community and finds connections to other community agencies/organizations.
- Increases community awareness of the library’s services, resources and value within the community.
- Attends training sessions to update marketing techniques and social media knowledge.
- Compiles any necessary statistics and evaluates PR/Marketing results for improvements.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of marketing, communications and fundraising experience. Experience with non-profits preferred.
- Adept with technology, including familiarity with e-mail marketing software, such as Constant Contact, website design and maintenance using Drupal, WordPress and/or HTML and social media.
- Mastery of Microsoft Office products.

- Exemplary written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

- Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to learn public library policies, services, and practices.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
