Social Media Intern – Pittsburgh Sports Report

SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN

The Pittsburgh Sports Report (PSR) is looking for an intern for Fall 2016 to provide assistance and coordination of social media content for our print and digital publications and website. The intern will work primarily with PSR’s High School Football Game of the Week (GOTW) program. The GOTW program consists of several games each Friday from September through October.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Work in partnership with PSR and the company’s advertisers, sponsors and partners to coordinate information and promotion of the GOTW.

 

Additional promotion may be required for non-GOTW articles and/or events, as well as working with advertisers, sponsors and partners to develop/maintain digital relationships.

 

PSR partners include Co-Go’s, United Health Care, Allegheny Health Network, PA Cyber Charter School, PNC, Peoples Natural Gas, Fed Ex Ground and others.

 

Research:

  1. Identify social media accounts of PSR partners, sponsors, advertisers, local teams, schools and/or players
  2. Create, maintain and update readily accessible file of social media accounts

 

Social Media Activity:

  1. Work with PSR editor to promote GOTW events during the week.
  2. Compile photo albums on social media following each GOTW. This work must be done over the weekend and be ready to “go live” by Monday morning at 7 AM.
  3. Disseminate PSR digital/online stories and/or photographs via social media platforms
  4. Disseminate press releases & other content through PSR social media platforms
  5. Live tweeting, re-tweeting & other event-specific activities across social media platforms

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in social media, sports and marketing
  • Knowledge and understanding of marketing research, demographics and analytics
  • Self-starter with high energy and drive is a must
  • Older, more experienced students are preferred but not necessary

Kennywood Internship

Description

Kennywood Park is searching for a group of motivated students to serve as Public Relations/Social Media interns during the 2016 season! Kennywood, founded in 1898, is one of America’s most iconic traditional amusement parks and one of the most recognizable brands in Western Pennsylvania. Interns will learn from and assist the Director of Public Relations and the Marketing Department at large in managing Kennywood’s growing social media presence, working with media professionals covering Kennywood, and assisting in various events held at Kennywood throughout the summer season.

The interns who join the Kennywood PR team will receive an on-the-ground training in managing the reputation of one of the most treasured institutions both in the Pittsburgh area and the amusement industry.  Applicants to this position must exhibit excellent work ethic and communication skills, demonstrate creativity, and understand the importance of attending to even the smallest details. This internship coincides with Kennywood’s operating season, which runs from May – September. This is an unpaid internship, though interested individuals can work in a seasonal role at Kennywood concurrent with the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all forms of media

Requirements

Students applying for this internship must have strong communication skills and should be majoring in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or Journalism. Applicants should also have strong writing skills, as well as a solid understanding of social media. Current students will preferably have at least sophomore standing. The public relations intern will be mentored and work alongside the principals of Kennywood’s Sales, Marketing & Public Relations Department. The Director of Public Relations & Social Media will help the intern prioritize tasks and focus on multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Preference will be given to current or former Kennywood Team Members studying the fields listed above.

The Public Relations Intern will assist Veterans Leadership Program’s (VLP) communication efforts with the goal to attract and retain new clients, donors and volunteers by increasing our media and online presence. The Tribune-Review and TribLIVE.com seek applicants for paid news internships during summer 2016.

 

Positions are available in news reporting, sports reporting, copy editing, multimedia graphics and photography.

 

Most internships are based in the Pittsburgh newsroom on the city’s North Shore, between PNC Park and Heinz Field; some are with the Tribune-Review newsroom in Greensburg or the Valley News Dispatch newsroom in Tarentum. Regardless of where they are based, interns are expected to produce quality work and coverage ideas worthy of prominent display online and in print.

 

Internships typically last 11-13 weeks, depending on the student’s school schedule. A car and valid driver’s license are required. Applicants must have completed at least their sophomore year in college. Recent graduates and graduate students are eligible.

Complete graphic design projects as assigned by OTCS leads, including the following:

PublicSource is an online news organization in Pittsburgh, providing Pennsylvania citizens with in-depth information. We write stories to explain complex issues in the areas of criminal justice, the environment, health, and politics.

We collaborate with about 50 media partners across the state, including newspapers, radio, television and other online news providers. Last year, our most shared story reached nearly six million readers.

Our major stories are in-depth and use graphics, data, maps and investigative techniques to tell readers about news outside the breaking news of each day.

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Generate story ideas, comprehensively research the topics and identify sources.
  • Approach a variety of sources, from top politicians to neighborhood advocates, on sensitive topics without hesitation.
  • Write clearly and accurately and has an eye for opportunities to incorporate data, photos, graphics and video.
  • Someone with solid organizational and time management skills.
  • A team player who will jump into the mix of a small newsroom with enthusiasm and ideas.
  • A detail oriented fact-checker who knows the appropriate way to source facts.
  • Skills in editing, photography, video, data viz and other forms of multimedia and social media are a plus.

 

PublicSource is a nonprofit newsroom with a small team of dedicated journalists. We will ask an intern to contribute to writing some daily news posts and to fact-check other reporters’ stories. We will coach interns on forming in-depth story ideas and organizing and distilling mountains of information in an engaging way.

If reporting and writing isn’t your thing, we would entertain applications by students with skills in graphical design, coding, data analysis, photography, videography and marketing.
